Leftists have pledged a democratic environment at Dhaka University in their manifesto unveiled for Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election.

The combined panel of Progressive Students’ Alliance and Anti-Imperialist Students’ Union placed their 16-point charter at a press conference today.

The highlight of their charter is to ensure a university “free from occupation and muscle power”, and democratic rights for every student.

Their other point includes ensuring full autonomy of Dhaka University and curbing “appointment of teachers based on preference”.

Accommodation, transportation, library modernisation and expansion, medical facilities, and introducing modern education system were also among their pledges.

Liton Nandi, vice-president candidate Ducsu, Faisal Mahmud, general secretary candidate, and other panel candidates were present at the briefing.
