Students of Dhaka University broke the lock on the door of a hall today, demanding reopening of the dormitories.

Residential students of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall entered its premises after breaking the lock around 11:45am, reports our university correspondent.

Residents of Amar Ekushey Hall also entered their hall defying authority.

One of the protesters, requesting anonymity, said that they are going to stage a demonstration this afternoon to press home their demands, that's why they were gathering inside the hall.

However, Syed Humayun Akhtar, provost of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, said, "We let students inside the hall twice a week. Today they were allowed to enter to collect books and clothes."

The provost also claimed that students entered and left the hall peacefully and nobody stayed back.
