DU student leader Akram remanded

A Dhaka court yesterday placed Akram Hossain, general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Adhikar Parishad's Dhaka University unit, on a two-day remand in a case filed for snatching away an arrestee who was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on March 25. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondol passed the order, after SI Saiful Islam Khan of Shahbagh Police Station produced Akram before the court, with a seven-day remand prayer, court sources said.

Akram's lawyer meanwhile submitted a petition, seeking bail and cancellation of the remand prayer. He said his client was not at the spot during the incident.
