DSCC official caught for demanding bribe

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today caught an office assistant of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) over demanding bribe for trade licence from a businessman.

Later, the DSCC authority suspended Mohammad Ali, an office assistant at Tax Zone-1 of Revenue Division.

The ACC today conducted drives at the eight city corporations of the country -- Dhaka, Chattogram, Cumilla, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Rangpur -- over allegations against their officials of taking bribe from service seekers.

The ACC received allegation that office assistant Mohammad Ali demanded Tk 15,000 for issuing trade licence instead of the fixed rate Tk 4,500, said Public Relations Officer of ACC Kanak Kumar Bhattacharya.

The anti-graft body also brought attention of DSCC’s Chief Revenue Officer Yusuf Ali Sardar to the matter.

Talking to the Daily Star, Yusuf said they have already suspended Mohammad Ali.

“We’ll appoint an investigation officer to investigate the matter,” he said.
