DSCC announces 15-day drive to crash mosquito menace

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today announced a 15-day mosquito eradication crash programme through visiting all doors of the city dwellers.

“Representatives of our inspection, cleanliness and health teams will begin visiting 25, 000 houses under 57 wards of my city area from today to destroy larvae of Aedes mosquito,” DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said while addressing a programme in Dhaka this noon.

As a part of the drive, the DSCC representatives will visit 1710 houses every day and also teach the people how to destroy the larva of the Aedes mosquito, he added.

After the inauguration of mosquito eradication campaign in Kathal Bagan area, the DSCC mayor also sought all-out cooperation from the city dwellers and called upon them to build a sense of self-awareness to get rid of the prevailing mosquito menace.

Underscoring the need for people’s self-awareness, Khokon expressed his optimism that he would be able to eradicate the mosquito menace through a collective effort of the city dwellers.

Stating that a total of 68 mobile medical teams are providing treatment aids to the dengue fever affected people, Khokon said the medical teams have already provided treatment to around 2157 people at 450 places in the DSCC area with free of cost.

If anyone finds the existence of the dengue, he or she has been asked to call the DSCC hotline number 09611000999 for help, Khokon said adding that, “Our official will respond promptly.”

Besides, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam today began a massive mass awareness-building campaign from Uttara area to prevent the dengue and chikungunya virus.

A procession was brought out from in front of the Uttara Club and that was ended at Rajuk Uttara Model School and College after marching different streets in the area.

During the procession, Atiqul Islam distributed leaflets and other papers among the students and handed over DVD to the teachers of the school to make it public in the classrooms for building awareness among the students.

While addressing a street rally, the DNCC mayor said he would be successful in preventing the dengue and chikungunya virus if the student and people from all walks of life in the society come forward with a collective effort.

Local lawmaker of the ruling Awami League Sahar Khatun and DNCC high ups, among others, took part in the procession to make the effort a success.
