Dolphin dies in Halda river

A dead dolphin was found yesterday morning at Kagotia union in Raozan upazila along the shore of river Halda.

Integrated Development Foundation (IDF), a voluntary organisation working for the protection of Halda river, recovered the mammal's body.

The freshwater dolphin bore deep bruises rendered by propeller of a mechanized boat or ship, said Manzurool Kibria, professor of Zoology at Chittagong University.

At least 17 dolphins died from September 2017 to February 2018 in Halda river. A probe body, formed subsequently by the government, held mechanised boats plying the river responsible for the deaths.
