Distorting History: BB executive director apologises before HC

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Executive Director Shubhankar Saha yesterday offered unconditional apology before the High Court for distorting history by not publishing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's photo in a book titled “Bangladesh Bank-er Itihash” (History of Bangladesh Bank).

Shubhankar, also editor of the book, appeared before the court and offered the apology on behalf of the whole team that was involved in editing the book.

The court, however, did not pardon him yesterday and asked him to appear before it in one week after the court vacation.

The HC will go on an annual vacation on March 15 and will reopen on March 31.

The court asked Shubhankar to submit a report to the court on the steps taken for retracting copies of the book from the market and stopping its further publication. The bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali set one week after vacation for further hearing.

Petitioner's counsel Barrister ABM Altaf Hossain told The Daily Star that Shubhankar's apology for distorting history is unacceptable.

Dr Kazi Ertaza Hasan, chairperson of Bangladesh Human Rights Development Commission, filed the petition challenging some of the contents of the book published by the central bank in 2017.
