Dipika, Noor elected JnUTA president, secy

A 15-member executive committee of Jagannath University Teachers’ Association (JnUTA) was elected today for a one-year term with Dipika Rani Sarker as the president and Noor Muhammad as the general secretary.

Physics department Prof Dipika Rani Sarker got 267 votes while his opponent Marketing department Prof Md Jakir Hossain got 215 votes.

Psychology department Prof Noor Muhammad bagged 302 votes for the post of general secretary while his opponent Zoology department Prof Md Abdul Alim bagged 182 votes.

Physics department Prof Suranjan Kumar Das, chief election commissioner of the polls, announced the results of the polls. The polls were held at the JnU Central Auditorium from 9:00am to 2:30pm.

Social Work department Prof Md Anower Hossain was elected as vice-president, while Marketing department Associate Prof Mohammad Abdullah Mahfuz as treasurer, and Islamic History and Culture department Associate Prof Shamsul Kabir as joint-secretary.

Chemistry department Associate Prof Abdus Samad, Zoology department lecturer Md  Masud Rana,  Botany department Prof Md Moniruzzaman Khandaker, Institute of Education and Research Prof Monira Jahan, Accounting and Information Systems department Assistant Prof Rabita Sabaha, Public Administration department Assistant Prof Ritu Kundu, Law department Lecturer Md Meftahul Hasan, Social Work department Prof Md Abul Hossen, Islamic Studies department Assistant Prof Mobarak Hossain, and Institute of Modern language Assistant Prof Md Niaz Alamgir were elected as executive members of the committee.

Two factions of pro-Awami League teachers’ group ‘Blue Panel’ contested in the polls, while pro-BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami teachers’ group ‘White Panel’ did not take part in the polls.

Contacted, Md Rais Uddin, General Secretary of JnU White Panel, told The Daily Star, “Now there is no environment for contesting in the polls.”

A total of 492 out of 654 teachers cast their votes in the polls.
