Diaz murder accused arrested

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday arrested a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Chittagong University (CU) unit in connection with the murder of central BCL leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury.

The arrestee is Mohammad Arman, a former student of CU Bangla department under 2009-2010 academic session, said CID sources.

Campus sources said Arman is the younger brother of Mohammad Alamgir Tipu, former president of CU BCL unit who is also an accused in the murder case.

Chattogram CID's Special Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan told The Daily Star, “Arman was arrested from port city's Chandgaon area following a tip-off.”

Later, CID officials interrogated him when he was produced before a court, said the SSP.

On November 20, 2016, the body of Diaz was found hanging from the ceiling in his room near the campus.

Diaz's mother filed the murder case on November 24 with a Chittagong court.
