On the cusp of demolition, authorities are now saying that a decision on the BGMEA building will be drawn later after meeting with high officials.

An arrangement to bring down the building yesterday was halted after authorities found office bearers still residing inside, yet to vacate.

Now, after the building was vacated on police watch yesterday, the building is standing – sealed off by the authorities ready to be brought down.

“We will decide about this matter later. We will decide about it in a meeting,” Rajuk’s Project Director ASM Raihanul Ferdous told The Daily Star today.

He did not mention any specifics as to when the meeting will be held.

From what he said, this much can be ascertained that the building will not be brought down today and that the process has been brought to a halt.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) secured a final extension for their building on April 2 – for a year and 10 days.

BGMEA has already moved most of its assets and offices to its new building at Uttara Sector 17, which was inaugurated by the prime minister on April 3.
