A three-day long school debate tournament titled “JDC Eloquence 2019” began yesterday morning on the St Joseph Higher Secondary School campus in Dhaka's Asadgate area.

Around 70 debate teams from different schools of the country are participating the event while renowned adjudicators from Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia and the United States are also attending.

Josephite Debating Club (JDC) is organising the tournament with a view to upholding and practising freedom of speech among students.

At the inaugural session, international award-winning adjudicators Patrick Cheang and Sher Mat Nar spoke on how debate can help students in their professional lives and also advised them on the debating process.

The first day concluded with completion of two rounds of the competition.

The closing ceremony of the tournament will take place at 5:00pm on Saturday at the same venue.
