Section of students reject decision

The central executive committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday announced its Chittagong University unit committee, 19 months after the previous one was dissolved.

Md Rejaul Haque Rubel, 2006-2007 session student of Statistics department and Md Iqbal Tipu, 2010-2011 session student of Marketing department were made president and general secretary respectively of a two-member committee of the ruling Awami League’s student wing.

Golam Rabbani, central general secretary of the ruling Awami League’s student wing, announced the CU unit committee just after midnight, through a press release.

Rejaul and Tipu were asked to form a full-fledged committee within a short time, he added.

Soon after the news broke, some BCL activists vandalised five rooms of Suhrawardy Hall.

They chanted slogans saying they do not accept this committee, as its president is too old. They took position in front of Suhrawardy Hall, and demanded formation of a new committee with young students.

On May 4, 2017, BCL central committee suspended organisational activities of CU unit BCL following repeated factional clashes, and finally dissolved the committee on December 6 on the same year.
