Cousins’ bodies recovered from Ctg pond

Police recovered bodies of two children from a pond in the port city’s Agrabad Debar Par area yesterday morning. The girls had been missing since Wednesday evening.

The deceased were identified as four-year-old Lamia Akhter and her cousin three-and-a-half-year-old Nusrat Jahan Meghla, Jahir Hossain, inspector of Double Mooring Police Station told our Chattogram correspondent.

Nusrat had come to visit Lamia’s residence near Debar par on Wednesday morning. The two went out to play in the evening and had been missing ever since.

Locals spotted the floating bodies on Thursday morning and informed the police, who recovered the bodies from the pond. Their demise has plunged the area into a pale of gloom.

“The girls might have drowned while playing. However, police are investigating the incident. Their bodies have been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy,” said Jahir.
