Cops shoot two 'muggers' in city

Police shot and injured two alleged muggers in front of Shishu Park in the capital early yesterday.

The duo was identified as Md Salman, 37, and Md Kabir, 38, said Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station.

Around 1:30am, police signalled a motorcycle with two riders to stop in front of Shahbagh police check post.

The duo rode away as one of them brandished a pistol and another a knife to the law enforcers, said the OC.

Police shot them and the duo sustained bullet injuries in their legs, OC also said, adding they were admitted into Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Law enforcers later found that the pistol was a toy .

“Kabir is accused in a case filed under Speedy Trial Act with Mirpur Police Station. The duo had been mugging at different areas in Dhaka riding on motorcycle,” OC Abul Hasan said. 

Police seized the bike and mobile phones from the arrestees.
