Police arrested a total of 22 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir in separate drives in the port city on Thursday.

The arrestees included Morshedul Alam, president of Double Mooring Thana unit of Shibir, and Tauhidul Minhaz, general secretary of the same unit, said Jahirul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Double Mooring Police Station.

On information, a team of law enforcers raided a house in the area and arrested the eight Shibir men including Morshedul and Minhaz, said the police official, adding that a large number of books and leaflets were recovered from their possession.

“They were planning to carry out subversive activities in the city,” he said.
