Conference on environment, eco risk management begins at DU

A two-day “China, South and Southeast Asian Conference on Environment and Ecological Risk Management” began at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University yesterday.

The Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences of DU and Yunnan University of China organised the programme to extend collaboration between the two universities.

Speaking as the chief guest, DU Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes on environmental and ecological risk management by regional and international experts.

He also called upon the researchers, academicians and professionals to work together to develop scientific research in this regard.

Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, dean of the faculty, presided over the session.

Earlier, the faculty of DU and the Institute of International Rivers and Eco-security of the Chinese university signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for promoting exchange of students, faculty members, scholars and administrative staff members and research collaboration.

A total of 50 researchers and experts including 17 foreign researchers from various universities in China, Nepal and Myanmar and other countries participated in the conference.
