Harassing Students

Complaint filed against 5 BCL men

Two female students of Chittagong University yesterday lodged a complaint with the proctor's office against five Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of the university for allegedly harassing them the day before.

The BCL men are Imran Hossain, Ariful Islam and Nadiruzzaman, students of sociology department; Ejaj Haider of international relations, and Shoyabur Rahman of Islamic history and culture.

The students said on Wednesday while having lunch at the cafeteria at social science faculty, Ariful, Nadiruzzaman and Ejaj started harassing them. When they protested, the BCL men hurled abusive words and tried to beat them.

Their friend, Jahid Hasan Sabuj, a journalist of Amader Shomoy, tried to protect them, but the BCL men slapped and kicked him. Meanwhile, Shoyabur harassed another student, who was trying to video the incident.

Jahid filed a complaint in this regard.

Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury said they are looking into the matter.

The five BCL men refuted the allegations, stating that they were the ones who were “harassed”.
