College boy stabbed to death in Mymensingh

A college student was stabbed to death allegedly by some youths at Gulpukurpar in Mymensingh city tonight.

The victim was identified as Shawon Bhattacharya, 20, son of Subhashish Bhattacharya in Brahmalli area of the city, said Khondaker Shaker Ahmed, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station.

Shawon was a second year student of Mymensingh Commerce College, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting the OC.

OC Khondaker said Shawon had an altercation with some youths in Gulpukurpar area while he was preparing to join a rally of immersion of Durga idol at Kachari Ferry Ghat of the city around 8:30pm.

At one stage of altercation, the youths stabbed Shawon indiscriminately, leaving him injured critically, said the OC.

Hearing his screams, locals rescued the victim and took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the OC said.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the MMCH morgue for autopsy.

Police detained a youth for his alleged involvement in the killing, said the police official.

However, police did not disclose the name for the sake of investigation.

The detainee was being interrogated at the police station, said the OC, adding that the murder might have occurred over previous enmity.
