CMP imposes fresh restriction on movement of heavy vehicles

Traffic Department of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) imposed a fresh restriction on movement of heavy vehicles on certain roads in the port city from 8am to 8pm to ease traffic congestion.

The roads are: Baluchhara-BRTA-Oxygen intersection, from Oxygen intersection to Sholashahar gate 2, from Katai Rastar Matha to Bahaddarhat intersection, from Utmarching to Station Road, from Kadamtali to Utmarching, from Karnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge to Bakalia, from Karnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge to Kotwali intersection, from Majhirghat to New Market intersection and from Newaz Hotel Mor to Government City College Road, according to a press release from CMP.

Goods laden trucks, covered vans, long vehicles, prime movers and other goods carrying vehicles fall under this restriction, it says.

However, vehicles on emergency export duty and vehicles carrying emergency foodstuff can ply these roads with special permission and sticker issued by Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters' Association, the press release adds.

In 2007, a restriction was imposed on movement of heavy vehicles on Chattogram city roads from 8am to 10pm, which was being violated by concerned vehicles every now and then, said sources.
