Cigarette-seller killed for refusing to sell on credit

A cigarette-seller was killed by some miscreants in Rajshahi city's Bheripara area yesterday for his refusal to sell them cigarette on credit, said police.

The deceased, Md Adar (25), succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after he was stabbed on his left thigh at 12:30am, said Shahadat Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Rajpara police station.

Adar was buried in the afternoon after an autopsy. He died of excessive bleeding from his stab injury, the OC said quoting medical reports.

After stabbing him, the perpetrators dragged him some 30 yards and dumped him in the middle of the road to make it look like an accident, the OC said quoting witnesses.

Adar's brother Abdul Hannan filed a case with Rajpara Police Station accusing six named and several unnamed persons regarding the murder.

The OC said police arrested Bappi and Darpan, two of the accused. They were trying to arrest the prime accused, Tuhin, and his father Pitu, he added.

According to Hannan, the case's complainant, Tuhin went to Adar's shop on Monday evening and wanted to get a cigarette on credit.

As Adar denied, Tuhin threatened him of dire consequences and left. When Adar was returning home at night closing his shop, Tuhin and his accomplices attacked him, Hannan told reporters.

He said Tuhin and his friends stabbed Adar. Tuhin's father then dumped Adar in the middle of a road.

"We are conducting drives to arrest the accused," the OC said.
