China to assist in preparing Rajshahi master plan: Liton

Chinese state-owned company Power China is going to assist in preparing a master plan for Rajshahi city and then invest in some development works, said Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton yesterday.

The mayor said this after meeting a six-member delegation of Power China, led by its business development manager Han Kun. “A government-to-government agreement is likely to happen in the next two weeks,” Liton said.

He said company teams have conducted feasibility studies in the city following Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo's visit to Rajshahi in January.

The mayor said Power China would build a permanent embankment on the bank of Padma river and construct recreational spots.

They would develop the city's transport system and build elevated expressway, metro rail and flyovers. They would also work for expansion of the airport and develop its infrastructure, he added.
