Child’s body recovered from Dhaka’s Karail slum

Police recovered the body of a four-year-old from a bathroom in Dhaka's Karail slum this morning.

The deceased was identified as Mim Akhter. Police suspect that she was strangled to death.

Sub-inspector Zahidul Islam of Banani Police Station said the child lived in the slum with her parents. Mim was at home with her elder brother Al Amin when her father Liton, a fruit vendor, and mother Ruksana Akter, a part-time house help, went out for work in the morning.

She went missing around 8:00am. Neighbours announced over the mosque's loudspeaker, seeking help to find her, the SI said.

Nearly two hours later, someone found her body in the bathroom and informed police, the officer said, adding there were signs of injury on the child's neck.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue in the afternoon for autopsy.
