Child sustains cuts on throat

A boy sustained cuts to his throat while the six-year-old was asleep at his home in Rajshahi early yesterday.

Mizan had 10 stiches at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, said police and hospital sources.

Talking to The Daily Star, Bagmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ataur Rahman said they found a blood-stained piece of broken glass inside the house in Bhabaniganj.

Mizan’s mother Feroza Begum told reporters at the hospital that they fell asleep keeping the door open amid heat. “I woke up hearing my son’s screams and saw he was bleeding.”

Feroza quoted her husband Atikur Rahman as saying that he heard a noise at the gate at that time. “Locals later told us that they saw someone fleeing the scene,” she said.

About the glass, she said the dressing table mirror got broken when other family members and neighbours crowded the spot.

Mizan’s uncle Anwar Hossain said, “Someone tried to kill our child.”

The OC said they are investigating the matter. The boy is now out of danger, Anwar Hossain quoted doctors as saying.
