'Plot to Kill Joy'

Charge framing hearing Feb 27

A Dhaka court yesterday set February 27 for the hearing on charge framing against acting editor Mahmudur Rahman of now-defunct daily Amar Desh and four others in a case filed over a plot to kidnap and kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT advisor to the prime minister.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order after Mahmudur's lawyer Zainul Abedin Meshbah sought adjournment of hearing, saying his client could not appear before the court as he was abroad for treatment.

The four others are: Shafiq Rehman, Mohammad Ullah Mamun, Rizvi Ahmed Caesar and Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan. All of them are on the run.

On February 22, police pressed charges against the five for plotting to kidnap and kill Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
