Carrying guns banned till polls
Says home minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said the government has banned carrying of all kinds of firearms until the national election, to avoid any kind of untoward incident.
He was talking to journalists at his ministry office.
Candidates may carry their licensed firearms for safety, but will not be allowed to brandish those during the period, he said.
Replying to a query on recent violent incidents across the country, the minister said Awami League does not believe in the politics of killing. “Necessary action will be taken against those who will be found responsible for vandalism,” the minister said.
Regarding recovery of illegal firearms, he said it is a routine work of law enforcement agencies, and directives on it will be announced soon.
