Bus helper held over accident of BIWTC official

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) yesterday arrested the helper of the bus responsible for the incident in which a female government official lost her left leg in Dhaka’s Banglamotor area in August.

Acting on a tip-off, PBI arrested helper Bacchu Mia from Mymensingh, Special Superintendent of Police Bureau of Investigation (Dhaka Metro North) Bashir Ahmed.

Bacchu Mia had been on the run since the incident occurred on August 27, sources at PBI said.

Krishna Roy Chowdhury, 55, assistant manager (accounts) at Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), lost her left leg after a recklessly-driven bus ran her over on a pavement in Banglamotor on August 27.

The victim was rushed to the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital from where she was shifted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor).

Krishna, who had joined the BIWTC in 1990, lives with her family in the city’s Maniknagar.
