Around 3,000 students were awarded degrees, while five meritorious students were awarded gold medals.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Dipu Moni said quality education is essential and the government has given topmost priority to it. She also expressed her deep concern on ragging and bullying on campuses.

Chairman of University Grants Commission Prof Kazi Shahidullah attended the event as special guest. He told graduates that education should not be limited to seeking employment, and learning should be expanded to make a skilled and knowledgeable society.

Dr Alastair Dawson, senior deputy vice-chancellor and vice-president of Central Queensland University in Australia, was the convocation speaker. He said, “Never stop learning. Seek wisdom from where you can find it. Share what you know with others. And above all, be kind to your fellow citizens.”
