BU Protest: Students block highway, demand VC's resignation

The deadlock at Barishal University continued for the tenth day yesterday, as agitated students held a protest rally on campus and blocked Barishal-Patuakhali highway, demanding the removal of Prof Imamul Huq from the post of vice-chancellor. They vowed to continue their movement until their demand is met.

The agitators blocked the highway from 11am till noon, leaving the road only after police requested them to move. The roadblock caused severe traffic jam.

Students started protesting on March 26 after they were allegedly excluded from the university's Independence Day programme. On the same day, VC Imamul Huq made a remark calling protesting students “Razakar-er Bachcha.”

Agitated students demanded his resignation after this. On March 28, BU authorities announced that the university will be closed indefinitely. The next day, the VC apologised, but the students continued their protest.
