Bring culprits to book: Family

Protesting the murder of Biswajit Haldar Nantu, chairman of Jalla Union Parishad in Ujirpur upazila of Barishal, family members and locals formed a human chain in the city yesterday.

They also demanded exemplary punishment for the killers.

Miscreants shot dead Nantu, also a local Awami League leader, at his shop at Karfa Bazar, on September 21. His father lodged a murder case against 32 people with Ujirpur Police Station.

So far, police have arrested eight of the accused and two others as suspect.

The prime accused is yet to be arrested, alleged Nantu’s father Shuklal Haldar from the human chain. “My son was killed for his tough stance against drugs,” he claimed.

Hiron Kumar Das Mithu, convener of Gano Forum, Barishal, was also present.
