BRAC University student killed in Dhaka road crash

A student of BRAC university died in a road accident in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Dhaka this afternoon.

The deceased Fahmida Haque Labanya, 21, was a seventh semester student of Computer Science and Engineering department of the BRAC University.

Police and family sources said Labanya was going to her university from her Shyamoli residence by a motorbike of a ridesharing service this morning.

A covered van hit the motorbike and ran over her near National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases around 11:30pm, Sohel Rana, a fruit seller in the area, told The Daily Star.

Critically injured, Fahmida was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared her dead, said Nurul Islam, sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

One Suman, 23, driver of the ride-sharing service also sustained injuries in the accident and managed to flee the scene after taking primary treatment at the same hospital, the SI said.

On information, family members and fellow students and teachers of the BRAC University went to the hospital and protested over such rampant road accident.
