'Boipora Utsab' marks 12 years of journey

“Boipora Utsab” began in Sylhet yesterday, marking 12 years of journey of the book reading festival for students.

Organised by “Innovator”, a development organisation, the festival was inaugurated at Central Shaheed Minar in the city's Chowhatta area.

This year, 811 students from 80 schools, colleges, universities and madrasas are participating in the event with the slogan “Ekattor Chhuye Chhuye Ek Jug”, said Pranab Kanti Deb, co-founder of the organisation.

Since the inception of the festival, “Innovator” has distributed 12,000 books among the equal number of students for free in Sylhet, he said.

The festival is aimed at promoting books on any issue, particularly on the 1971 Liberation War.

Traditionally, a student gets a book at the festival following a registration process in December. Later, they are awarded in March through an examination on the books in February.

Innovator got Joy Bangla Youth Award in 2017 for its book reading festival, said Pranab.
