A seven year old boy was abducted and killed as his father failed to pay back Tk 1,500 to a lender, police said after recovering the partially decomposed body of the child from Kamrangirchar area four days after he had gone missing from Dhaka's Lalbagh area.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Lalbagh zone) Mohammad Nazer Ahamed said that after analysing the CCTV footage, police arrested one Yasin Mallik, 23, for his alleged involvement in the kidnap and murder.

Hridoy Sana, the victim, went missing after he went to Balurghat sand ground to play on January 26, the police official said, adding that they recovered the body from inside a sack that was lying on a street in Ali Nagar area.

The victim's father Mohammad Ramzan Sana, a tea vendor from Khulna's Sonadanga upazila currently living in Lalbagh, borrowed Tk 17,000 from Mallik a year ago. He had already paid back Tk 15,500 in installments, the ADC said.

“During primary interrogation, Mallik admitted that he got desperate to get back the remaining Tk 1,500 and, at one point, abducted the boy, killed him and threw the body packed in a sack out on the streets,” ADC Nazer added.

A case was filed yesterday with Lalbagh Police Station under the Women and Children's Repression Prevention Act 2000.
