BNP leader held for 'attacking' cops in Ctg

Police arrested a BNP leader in Chattogram city's Kazir Dewri area on charge of attacking police yesterday evening.

The arrestee, Engineer Belayet Hossain, is convener of Chattogram north district unit of BNP and also a former secretary general of its Sandwip upazila unit.

“He along with some other BNP men attacked police in front of the party's office,” said Deputy Commissioner (South) Mehedi Hasan of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

“Police were conducting drives to arrest the other attackers,” said the DC.

However, city BNP Assistant Office Secretary Idris Ali said police picked up Belayet Hossain while he was coming out of the party office after a prescheduled meeting.
