'Assault on Cops' in 2015

BNP leader denied bail, sent to jail

A Brahmanbaria court yesterday sent a central BNP leader to jail after rejecting his bail petition in a case filed over assault on police in 2015.

The court passed the order against party Economic Affairs Secretary Khaled Hossain Mahboob Shemol.

On January 5, 2015 a clash ensued between police and BNP activists in the town while the party men were holding protests, marking one year into January 5 one-sided election.

Police filed the case the next day against 66 BNP men including Shemol with Sadar Model Police Station. The other accused were granted bail yesterday.

Shemol is supposed to contest the next general election from Brahmanbaria-3 constituency, BNP sources said.
