BIWTA drive continues

29 illegal structures knocked down

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) yesterday knocked down some 29 illegal structures in Kaundia of Savar as part of their ongoing drive against illegal establishments along the Buriganga and Turag rivers.

A team, led by BIWTA Joint Director AKM Arif Uddin, conducted the drive at Kaundia around 10am and continued till 4pm. The team also recovered around one acre of land and freed Kumarbari Khal from encroachers, who were using the canal for fish farming, de-linking it from the Turag river.

On the 23rd day of the drive, BIWTA demolished 12 one-storey, one three-storey and four two-storey buildings, and seven semi-concrete and five tin-shed structures.
