Biman to reduce number of flights on 10 int’l routes by half

Biman Bangladesh Airlines today decided to reduce the number of flights on 10 different international routes by more than fifty percent due to low number of passengers, as well as flight bans in some destinations following the global coronavirus outbreak.

"We have decided to reduce our total weekly flights [to and from] to 68 from 142 on 10 international destinations mainly due to passenger scarcity amid the coronavirus outbreak," Mokabbir Hossain, Biman's managing director and CEO, told reporters in a whatsApp message.

The national flag carrier operates international flights to Kuala Lumpur, Kathmandu, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bangkok, Singapore, Jeddah, Medina, Doha and Kuwait City.

Of the destinations, there will be no flights to Doha till further notice after the Qatar government yesterday imposed a ban on travelers from 14 countries, including Bangladesh.

Flights to Kuwait City from Bangladesh and six other countries had also been suspended earlier over the same reason.

The passengers who have already purchased tickets for Doha or Kuwait will be able to get a refund from Biman Bangladesh Airlines sales offices, Biman said in a press release today.
