Just ahead of Eid-ul-fitr beef price has soared in the kitchen markets of Dhaka since yesterday.

Though Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) fixed beef price at Tk 525 per Kg at the start of Ramadan, butchers have sold beef at Tk 580 per Kg yesterday and today they are selling it for Tk 600 per Kg.

The price has been hiked in almost all the markets of the capital, our correspondent reports after visiting some kitchen markets in Karwan Bazar, Shewrapara, Mirpur-10 and Mirpur-11.

Apart from price hike, there is scarcity of beef in the markets and the butchers are giving 250-300 grammes of bone in one kilogramme of beef which used to be less than 200 grammes before Ramadan, a customer named Hafizullah told The Daily Star at a bazar in block-C of Mirpur 10.

On the other hand, the butchers are saying that they had to raise the price as the prices of cows have been hiked before Eid and they can only make a minimum amount of profit even after selling beef at a high price, our correspondent reports after talking to a number of butchers of the markets.
