Beaten by mob, man dies at hospital

A man, who was beaten by a mob in Bagerhat, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) yesterday.  

On February 29, Shamim Sheikh (25) was caught stealing watermelon saplings from a field in Chalitakhali village of the district's Kachua upazila. Villagers beat him on the spot, leaving him with severe injuries.

He was rescued and taken to KMCH, where he died after nine days.

OC Shafiqur Rahman of Kachua Police Station said five theft cases were filed against Shamim in the last five months. The offences ranged from theft of crops to stealing cattle.
