BCC dismantles illegal structure

Barishal City Corporation (BCC) yesterday demolished part of a building constructed encroaching a road in the city’s Chawk Bazar area.

Imtiaz Mahmud Jewel, executive magistrate of BCC, led the eviction drive in the afternoon. He said the building was constructed on around eight-decimal land of the city corporation and the road connecting Port and Chawk Bazar areas. It was situated within a few yards of Nagar Bhaban, he added.

Jewel said during construction of the building last year, locals objected the move and BCC also issued a notice to the owner for encroaching pubic property.

“As the owner did not pay heed to the notice, we conducted the drive and knocked down the illegal portion of the structure,” said Kazi Moazzem Hossain, administrative officer of BCC.

Owner of the building could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
