Barishal children get new park

Barishal City Corporation (BCC) has opened a  new park for children in the city’s Amanatganj area.

BCC Mayor Serniabat Sadik Abdullah inaugurated the park named “Shaheed Sukanta Babu Shishu Park” on June 4 ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

During the inauguration, the mayor told journalists that the city corporation has a plan to set up more parks for children.

“This one is a modern children’s park, which the BCC built at a cost of over Tk 2 crore,” BCC Assistant Engineer Mamunur Rashid told The Daily Star.

The park has 12 different rides, sleepers, walkways and lighting facilities, said the BCC official.

It also offers free entry and rides to all children, said the authorities.

“We are very happy to get this park. It is a recreational place for adults as well,” said Morzina Begum, who took her eight-year-old son Sajjad to the park during Eid.

With the new one, number of children’s park in the city is now three.

All are situated in Bangabandhu Udyan area. Of the other two, one belongs to BCC and another is privately owned.
