The High Court today stayed the proceedings for construction and allotment of shops and super shops under Akteruzzaman Chowdhury Flyover in Chattogram for six months.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks why the proceedings of construction and allotment of shops and super shops there should not be declared illegal, Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman told The Daily Star.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order and issued the rule following a writ petition filed by Justice Watch Foundation, a rights organization, challenging the legality of construction and allotment of shops and super shops under the flyover in Chattogram.

Petitioner’s lawyer Barrister Md Mahfuzur Rahman Milon told this correspondent that Chattogram Development Authority are constructing and allocating shops and super shops beyond the relevant plan although the Chattogram City Corporation has opposed it through issuing a letter.

Beatification of the area will be damaged and traffic jam will be created if shops and super shops are built under Akteruzzaman Chowdhury Flyover in Chattogram, he added.
