Bangabandhu Birth Centenary Celebration: Media to display ‘Mujib Borsho’ logo from Jan 10

Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, yesterday urged the media to mark the countdown to the celebration in a festive, fair and creative manner.

He made the call at a views-exchange meeting with senior journalists on celebrating Bangabandhu’s birth centenary at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.

At the meeting, it was decided that print, electronic and online media will display the logo of “Mujib Borsho” and countdown to the celebration in their respective media from January 10, 2020 -- Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day -- to March 17.

Kamal Abdul Naser said logo of Mujib Borsho, design of the countdown and theme song will be finalised by this month.   

Dr Rafiqul Islam, president of the Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, advised all concerned not to exhaust all energy on the countdown of the celebration as the programme will continue for one year, from March 17, 2020. 

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) and Bangladesh would celebrate the Mujib Borsho.

Bangladesh will celebrate the year through various programmes marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born in Tungipara of Gopalganj on March 17, 1920.

The inaugural function would begin at 4pm on March 17, 2020 at the National Parade Square in Dhaka’s Tejgaon.

International personalities and world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, former Unesco Secretary General Irina Bokova and former Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa are likely to take part in the inaugural event.

Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Congress Party of India President Sonia Gandhi, BJP leader and former Indian Prime Minister LK Advani, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, among others, will be invited to attend the programme, sources said.  There is also plan to bring a world-renowned artist.

Unesco is going to launch a Bangabandhu  award from next year. The award will be conferred to encourage young people to develop international relations through research and creativity. Bangladesh will fund the award every year, sources said.
