ASI remanded for snatching gold

A Dhaka court today placed two people including an assistant sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station on a three-day remand each in connection with a case filed over snatching 125 totals of gold in the city’s Shahbag area.

The accused are Shahbagh Police Station ASI Shahjahan Kabir, 44, and Md Alimuddin, 58, proprietor of Asif Jewellers in Mouchak Market.   

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziaur Rahman passed the order after Mahabubur Rahman, an inspector of Shahbagh Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before it with a seven-day remand prayer.

The IO, in his forwarding report, said the accused were directly involved with snatching 125 totals of gold from two employees of Razi Bullion Store of Tantibazar while they were going to Sadia jewellers in New Market to sell the gold bars around 8:30 pm on September 14.

So, they need to be remanded to find out the whereabouts of others responsible for committing such offences and recover the rest gold bars.

Following the incident, Md Ali Ashraf, manager of Razi Bullion Store, on September 17 filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station against Shahjahan Kabir, Alimuddin, Al Amin, one of employees of the complainant, and Md Nazrul Islam and Md Ali.

Polic then recovered Tk 7 lakh which was earned for selling the gold from his residence and 30.93 tolas of gold from Asif Jewellers of Mouchak market.

Earlier on September 16, another Dhaka court placed five policemen on different terms of remand for their alleged involvement with possessing 552 pieces of yaba in the city’s Uttara Paschim area.
