Arrest BNP-Jamaat attackers: AL to admin

The ruling Awami League yesterday requested the administration to arrest BNP and Jamaat activists, who have been attacking AL's campaigns and offices, ahead of the 11th national election.

"BNP men are attacking our processions, assaulting our supporters and setting fire to the offices of other democratic parties and Awami League allies," HT Imam, co-chairman of the ruling party's Election Steering Committee, claimed at a media briefing at the party chief's political office in Dhanmondi.

"Five AL leaders have been killed and over 250 were injured in attacks by BNP-Jamaat activists. Hundreds of election offices have been vandalised," the AL leader claimed.

He also accused BNP of filing "false allegations" with the Election Commission against the ruling AL. 

Imam claimed that there had been a "big attack" on Asaduzzaman Noor.

"BNP-Jamaat activists launched attacks and opened fire in 24 places and torched 11 vehicles. They also attacked two police vehicles," he said.

HT Imam also accused BNP-Jamaat alliance of attacking minorities. "We are receiving reports of attacks on minorities from different parts of the country. Fear is spreading among these communities," he claimed.

"The BNP-Jamaat alliance has again chosen the path of violence against minorities like it did in 2001," he added.
