Ariful takes charge as Sylhet mayor

Re-elected Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury took charge of office yesterday afternoon.

After a ceremony at Nagar Bhaban, he took over the responsibility from Badrul Haque, secretary of the city corporation.

BNP's Ariful sealed victory for the second time in the July 30 SCC election, defeating AL's Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran.

Ariful said, “I would like to complete last term's unfinished works and then start to fulfil the promises I made in the election manifesto.”

He also promised to address the city's waterlogging and traffic congestion issues.

On September 5, Ariful took oath at a function at the Prime Minister's Office in Dhaka. He then left for England and returned to Sylhet on September 27.
