Anti-drug drive: 92 sent to jail

A Dhaka court today sent 92 people to jail in connection with 16 cases filed with Mohammadpur Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act on March 22 and 23.

The Rapid Action Battalion yesterday arrested the 92 people, including six women, in an anti-narcotics drive in Mohammadpur’s Geneva Camp, considered a major drug hub in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Moinul Islam passed the order after police produced them before the court.

According to the police forwarding reports, police sought a five-day remand prayer for 45 people and a seven-day remand prayer for seven people for interrogation.

However, the law enforcers did not seek any remand for the rest 40 arrestees.

Defence lawyers also filed petitions seeking bail for the arrestees.

However, the court denied remand prayers and bail petitions and sent them to jail.

During the drive at Geneva Camp yesterday, the elite force also claimed to have seized 12,000 yaba pills, 8 to 10 kilograms of cannabis, 20 bottles of Phensedyl and 90 ampules of morphine.
