Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today seized a government Pajero Jeep from a class-III employee of Power Development Board (PDB,) who has been using the car illegally for the last 10 years.

A team of the anti-graft watchdog recovered the Jeep from the possession of PDB’s former assistant accountant Jahirul Islam Chowdhury, who was president of Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA), reports a press release.

Later, the ACC team brought the car to the commission’s Segunbagicha headquarters around 12:30 pm. Jahirul has been using the car since 2009.

The ACC estimated that the CBA leader expended around Tk one crore for fuel, maintenance, driver’s salary and other purposes of the car for the last 10 years, the press release said.

Yesterday, a five-member ACC team led by its assistant director Salauddin Ahmed conducted a drive and recovered a Mitsubishi Pajero from illegal possession of the PDB's CBA general secretary Md Alauddin Mia from Motijheel area in the capital following a complaint.

Both the CBA leaders are third class employees though they are not entitled to use the government car, but they were using the cars for the last 9 years abusing their power.

The ACC director general said the CBA leader encored government’s financial loss by doing so and it is an offence according to the ACC law.

The commission will soon go for the investigation into the matter and will take legal action in this regard, he warned.
