Amjad Hossain's body brought back home

The body of renowned filmmaker and actor Amjad Hossain was brought back home yesterday evening, seven days after his death.

The mortal remains were flown from Thailand on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that landed around 7:05pm.

Amjad's body will be taken to his residence in the city's Adabar area after the first namaj-e-janaza at Mohammadpur's Baitul Aman mosque.

The body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar today for people to pay their last respects, from 11am to 12pm. It will then be taken to ATN Bangla office, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and Channel i office.

He will be laid to rest at his village home in Jamalpur.

The veteran director breathed his last at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok on December 14. He was taken there on November 28. His medical expenses were covered by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  

He was admitted to the intensive care unit of Dhaka's Impulse Hospital and was on life support after suffering a stroke at his residence on November 18.

Amjad, born on August 14, 1942, had shown an interest in arts and literature at an early age.

Apart from receiving multiple national film awards, he also won many accolades during his career spanning nearly half a century. He received the Ekushey Padak in 1992.

Some of his notable films are: “Golapi Ekhon Train-e” (1978), “Sundori” (1979), “Koshai” (1980), “Jonmo Theke Jolchhi” (1982), “Dui Poishar Alta” (1982), “Bhat De” (1984), “Golapi Ekhon Dhaka-e” (2006), and “Golapi Ekhon Bilat-e” (2010).
