Amassing Tk 135.45cr: Chisty shown arrested in five corruption cases

Mahabubul Haque Chisty, former chairman of Farmers Bank audit committee, was shown arrested yesterday in connection with five cases filed for amassing over Tk 135.45 crore illegally.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka passed the order as Mohammad Faisal, an assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission and the cases' investigation officer, submitted five petitions.

Chisty's son Rashedul Haque was shown arrested in two of the five cases. During yesterday's hearing, Chisty and Rashedul were produced before the court.

On December 15 last year, the ACC filed five cases with its Integrated District Office-1 of Dhaka against Chisty, his wife, son, daughter and daughter-in-law.

Of them, Chisty's wife Ruzy Chisty and daughter Rimi Chisty are on bail while his daughter-in-law Farhana Ahmed is still at large.

According to the prosecution, the ACC found Chistry's illegal wealth of Tk 28,55,61,590, Ruzy's Tk 37.38 crore, Rshedul's Tk 32.68 crore while his wife Farhana's Tk 13.68 crore and daughter's Tk 21,20,90,000.

In 2018, Chisty and his son were arrested in a Tk 160 crore laundering case.
