Allocating Plots to MA Hashem’s Family: HC questions legality of Rajuk’s decision

The High Court yesterday questioned the legality of Rajuk’s decision to allocate 70-katha land at Purbachal New Town Project to seven family members of Partex Group Chairman MA Hashem.

The court issued a suo muto (voluntary) rule asking the Rajuk chairman and seven family members of MA Hashem to explain in three weeks as to why the allocation of plots should not be scrapped.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the rule while hearing a writ petition filed by a candidate who was not allocated a plot, Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder told The Daily Star.

The HC found that Rajuk has allocated the total land (10-katha each to seven family members) in 2009-2010. The seven are -- MA Hashem, Sultana Hashem, Aziz Al Masud, Ashfaque Aziz, Shawkat Aziz, Aziz Al Mahmud and Aziz Al Kaiser.

Earlier in the day, the HC bench heard expert opinion from Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and senior lawyer Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru on this issue. They told the HC that this court can interfere if irregularities have taken place in this regard.
